PRIMAVERA 2012

Marita

"The Wind and the Sun"
One day, the wind and the Sun had an argument. "I'm stronger than you", said the Eind, and blew as hard as he could. "Nonsense", said the Sun. Just then they saw a man salking alogn wearing a hat and a coat. "I'll show you how strong I am", said the Wind. "Watch me blow that man's hat and coat off" He blew and blew, but the man only pulled his hat oer his ears and held onto his coat. "Now it's my turn", said the Sun, and he came from behind a cloud and shone down on the man."Whew, it's getting hot", said the man. He took his hat and coat off, and lay down on the ground and fell asleep. "I've won", said the Sun, quietly

What is implied in the text is that using soft ways will be far more better that using force and violence.

Conclusions:

a)There are better ways to achieve what we want
b)The Sun could make the man relax under his rays.
d)To show others how "strong" you are, will not take you to a good path.
e)Every person or thing has sher/his own qualities because we are unique (with both good and bad things)
f)Using violence will take you nowhere.

Texto:
"The two fungi"

Once upon a time, two fungi grew up together in the woods. One of them was tall and thin, and had his head held up high. The other one was short and fat, with a wide flattened head and actually, he was not the most beautiful of them. “My little neighbour”, the tall one said, “you are not very beautiful. I would like you to go a bit further from here, because you ruin the landscape. I don’t really like seeing ugly things nearby.”
No sooner had the proud fungus stopped talking than it started to rain. It was a heavy rain with big drops. A little mouse came jumping looking for a refuge, and he was lucky enough to see the short fungus. “Dear fungus, can I shelter under you? Otherwise I will get really wet and I will catch a cold.” “Of course you can”, answered the fungus. “Stay close to my stem and I’ll protect you from water.”
When the rain stopped, the mouse prepared to leave. “I really appreciate what you did”, he said. “You are a very kind fungus. I think you are far prittier than that gangling and unpleasant fungus.”
The tall fungus heard what the mouse said, he blushed and looked away.

Preguntas literales:
1- Can you imagine and describe the two fungi with your own words? Add a drawing of them.
2- What did the tall fungus ask her neighbour? Why?
3- What happened when it started to rain?
4- What did the mouse think about each fungus?
5- How was the tall fungus' reaction when the mouse told them what he thought?

Preguntas divergentes:
1- Do you think it was good of the tall fungus to ask her neighbour to go away? Why? Why not?
2- How do you think the short fungus felt?
3- How do you think the short fungus felt after the mouse told him what he thought?
4- Do you think the tall fungus learnt a lesson? Which one?

Conclusiones:
You shouldn't prejudge the worth or value of something by its outward appearance alone. ("Don't judge a book by its cover")

THE BEAR AND THE TWO TRAVELERS.

Two Friends were traveling together, when a Bear suddenly appeared before them. One of them, thinking of his own safety climbed up quickly into a tree, without trying to help his friend do the same. The other, not having time to hide, fell flat on the ground, without moving at all, as if he were dead. The Bear came up and smelled him all over, and after a while, thinking he was dead, walked away. When the danger was gone, the other Traveler climbed down from the tree, and, laughing at his friend asked him:
“What did the bear whisper in your ear?”
“He gave me a piece of advice," the other replied...

*What is implied here is that misfortune reveals the true nature of friends.

1) Who were traveling together?
2) Who suddenly appeared?
3) Where were they?
4) What happened then?

1) Which was the piece of advice that the bear gave to the traveler?
2) Do you think that the bear really spoke to him?
3) Can you think about the reaction of both friends at the end of the story?

**Conclusions:
* We should not leave a friend to his/her fate.
* We should not travel with a friend who leaves us in the lurch.
* We should take care of our friends.
* We should be with our friends through the good and the bad.

The Lion and the Mouse.

Once when a Lion was asleep a little Mouse began running up and down upon him; this soon wakened the Lion, who placed his huge paw upon him, and opened his big jaws to swallow him. "Pardon, Oh King," cried the little Mouse: "forgive me this time, I shall never forget it: who knows but what I may be able to do you a turn some of these days?" The Lion was so tickled at the idea of the Mouse being able to help him, that he lifted up his paw and let him go. Some time after the Lion was caught in a trap, and the hunters who desired to carry him alive to the King, tied him to a tree while they went in search of a waggon to carry him on. Just then the little Mouse happened to pass by, and seeing the sad plight in which the Lion was, went up to him and soon gnawed away the ropes that bound the King of the Beasts. "Was I not right?" said the little Mouse.

- What is implied here is that little friends may prove great friends.

Questions:
1- What did the mouse do? What did he tell the lion?
2- What happened to the lion?
3- What is a trap?
4- How did the mouse free the lion?
5- Why couldn't the lion free himself?

1- Why did the lion change his mind about eating the mouse?
2- How do you think the lion felt when his life was saved by a tiny mouse?
3- Do you think that the lion and the mouse remain friends?

Conclusions:
- Little friends may prove to be great friends.
- Less powerful people can do important things.
- Good things come in small packages.

"The Ant and the Dove"

"One hot day, an ant was searching for some water. After walking around for some time, she came to a spring.
To reach the spring, she had to climb up a blade of grass. While making her way up, she slipped and fell into the water.
She could have drowned if a dove up a nearby tree had not seen her. Seeing that the ant was in trouble, the dove quickly plucked off a leaf and dropped it into the water near the struggling ant. The ant moved towards the leaf and climbed up there. Soon it carried her safely to dry ground.
Just at that time, a hunter nearby was throwing out his net towards the dove, hoping to trap it.
Guessing what he was about to do, the ant quickly bit him on the heel. Feeling the pain, the hunter dropped his net. The dove was quick to fly away to safety."

-What is implied here is that a grateful heart will always find opportunities to show its gratitude.

2-Why do you think that the ant helped the dove?
3-Is it good for you to help people in need?
4-What do you think about gratitude?

Conclusions:

-We should always be generous.
-We should help people in need.
-We should be kind-hearted to others.

Where is the bee?

Lulu is a happy bee. She has a family, a father, a mother and a brother. Lulu likes playing with her friends, but what she likes best is working with her family. On Tuesdays and Fridays Lulu and her family go to a big garden to look for beautiful flowers…why? Because they have to find “nectar” to make delicious honey. Last Friday, all the family took their buckets and went to the big garden for the “nectar”. Mr. Bee said, “Let’s fly all together”
Lulu worked a lot. She had two buckets full of nectar. She was so tired that she chose a big flower to rest on, and she slept for some hours. It was getting dark, so Mr. Bee decided to go back home. At that moment they discovered that Lulu was not there with them.
All the family looked for her in different flowers and trees, but it was too dark and they had to return home without her. They were very sad. They did not know what to do. They wanted to find Lulu, but they were afraid of the dark. “What can we do?” asked Mrs. Bee. “I don’t know” said Mr. Bee. “I have an idea! Let’s go to the firefly’s house and ask for help”, said Lulu’s brother.
In the end, with the firefly’s light they could find Lulu inside the flower. “Oh! Thank you very much!” said Lulu. “And thanks to the firefly for helping us” said Mr. Bee.

Further along the road the donkey started to feel very tired, and again asked the horse to take some of the load. And again the horse refused. The Ant and the Grasshoper.

Once there lived an ant and a grasshopper in a grassy meadow.

All day long the ant would work hard, collecting grains of wheat from the farmer's field far away. She would hurry to the field every morning, as soon as it was light enough to see by, and toil back with a heavy grain of wheat balanced on her head. She would put the grain of wheat carefully away in her larder, and then hurry back to the field for another one. All day long she would work, without stop or rest, scurrying back and forth from the field, collecting the grains of wheat and storing them carefully in her larder.
The grasshopper would look at her and laugh. 'Why do you work so hard, dear ant?' he would say. 'Come, rest awhile, listen to my song. Summer is here, the days are long and bright. Why waste the sunshine in labour and toil?'
The ant would ignore him, and head bent, would just hurry to the field a little faster. This would make the grasshopper laugh even louder. 'What a silly little ant you are!' he would call after her. 'Come, come and dance with me! Forget about work! Enjoy the summer! Live a little!' And the grasshopper would hop away across the meadow, singing and dancing merrily.
Summer faded into autumn, and autumn turned into winter. The sun was hardly seen, and the days were short and grey, the nights long and dark. It became freezing cold, and snow began to fall.
The grasshopper didn't feel like singing any more. He was cold and hungry. He had nowhere to shelter from the snow, and nothing to eat. The meadow and the farmer's field were covered in snow, and there was no food to be had. 'Oh what shall I do? Where shall I go?' wailed the grasshopper. Suddenly he remembered the ant. 'Ah - I shall go to the ant and ask her for food and shelter!' declared the grasshopper, perking up. So off he went to the ant's house and knocked at her door. 'Hello ant!' he cried cheerfully. 'Here I am, to sing for you, as I warm myself by your fire, while you get me some food from that larder of yours!'
The ant looked at the grasshopper and said, 'All summer long I worked hard while you made fun of me, and sang and danced. You should have thought of winter then! Find somewhere else to sing, grasshopper! There is no warmth or food for you here!' And the ant shut the door in the grasshopper's face.
